About the role:

As a Year 2 Teacher some of your responsibilities will include:

Teaching and Learning:

  1. Planning Lessons: Developing and preparing detailed lesson plans that align with the national curriculum and meet the learning needs of all students.
  2. Delivering Lessons: Teaching core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and foundation subjects like History, Geography, Art, and Physical Education.
  3. Differentiating Instruction: Adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can access the curriculum.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  1. Assessing Progress: Regularly assessing students through observations, informal assessments, and formal tests. Tracking and recording their academic progress and development.
  2. Providing Feedback: Offering constructive feedback to students to guide their learning and help them improve. Sharing progress with students in an age-appropriate manner.

Classroom Management:

  1. Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Establishing a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning. Encouraging positive behaviour and respect among students.
  2. Behaviour Management: Implementing effective behaviour management strategies to maintain discipline and a productive learning atmosphere.

Support and Guidance:

  1. Individual Support: Identifying and providing additional support to students with special educational needs (SEN) or those who need extra help with their learning.
  2. Pastoral Care: Offering emotional and social support to students, promoting their well-being and helping them develop social skills.

Communication and Collaboration:

  1. Parent-Teacher Communication: Regularly communicating with parents and guardians about their child's progress, achievements, and any concerns. Conducting parent-teacher meetings and providing written reports.
  2. Collaboration with Colleagues: Working with other teachers, teaching assistants, and school staff to plan and deliver effective educational programs and interventions.

Professional Development:

  1. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to keep up-to-date with the latest teaching practices, curriculum changes, and educational research.

Administrative Duties:

  1. Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of students' attendance, progress, behavior, and any incidents.
  2. Report Writing: Preparing written reports on students' performance and development for parents, school management, and external bodies when required.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

  1. Organising Activities: Planning and supervising extra-curricular activities, such as school trips, themed days, and special events, to enhance students' learning experiences outside the classroom.

Compliance and Safeguarding:

  1. Adhering to Policies: Ensuring compliance with school policies, national standards, and safeguarding procedures to protect the welfare of children. Reporting any concerns regarding child protection to the appropriate authorities.

A Year 2 teacher must be organised, patient, and creative, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. They should be passionate about teaching and committed to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for young children.
